What if... Earth had left Zor's SDF buried on Macross Island? |

What would have happened if Zor's crashed SDF(-1) had been left unsalvaged, would the Zentraedi have retrieved it without incident to Earth and everything
that followed have been avoided... would our insignificant, primitive world have been left alone???

I suspect the earth would have been either destroyed or enslaved.

Would Zor's ship have been located by the finder beam had it not been salvaged? Why did it take them 10 years and then it just happened to lock on to that
planet at the time they were preparing to launch? There's not enough information about the circumstances surrounding the mission and eventual crash of
Zor's ship and the boobytrap.

Just what are we defining as unsalvaged in this case. Are we talking strictly leaving it alone without touching it what so ever OR just not rebuilding the
SDF-1, but still do reverse engineering of ship's technology? The first case I have a hard time seeing happen without a pretty good reason. The second case
I see as more plausible.
In either case if the Zentraedi arrived (Legioss brings up a good point) they likely would follow a similiar pattern as before upon arrival and likely would secure the wreakage of the ship. How easy it is depends on if Earth did any reverse engineering at all with the crashed ship. How much time they had (do they have a functioning grand cannon). Is the Main gun Boobytrap even functional after the crash? After securing the ship, they likely would leave and follow the hands off directive concerning micronian worlds (unless its a long drawn out affair resulting in similiar actions from the show). Weather they recover the PC Matrix depends on if Earth left the thing completely alone or what was taken from the wreakage for reverse engineering (if we are going that route). If the Matrix was removed, the Masters would come themselves, possibly with Zentraedi assistance for a second round. |

In the best case scenario, the Masters would have left Earth alone for a while. They would eventually get into a war with the Invid that could result in their
destruction. With Neutron S-like planet killing technology, the Zentraedi, they might get the Invid to retreat. Still, it leaves the Masters at large and the
Earth vulnerable. A conflict between Earth and the Masters seems inevitable, no matter what happens.

My guess is if the Zents/Mastes get the SDF1 back easily they go back to fighting their war with the Invid and without the SDF1 and/or the last of the
Protoculture the Earth is forgotten.

I think the Zents would have retrieved it with ease and laughed at our pitiful attempt to stop them. Once the war between the Masters/Zents and Invid were over, they would have either left Earth alone or sent an occupation force. Either way I figure Earth would have been pretty much unaffected.

Depends on who wins the war... If the Invid, then they would need a new world to grow and cultivate the FOL on. But if the Masters then they would repair or copy the Robotech Protoculture Factory, then transfer the seeds/seedlings into matrices which prevent them from maturing. Masters with the Zents, Proto Factory, and Protoculture would likely have a significant advantage.
