Then there's junk stores, which might have books. In the 90s, I got many early issues of The Warlord from a junk store at a quarter each, and while just killing time the next county over, waiting for my brother at a doctor's appointment, I found a mint condition 1st edition AD&D Dungeon Masters Guide for 50 cents.
