I am the greatest Southern Cross fan ever |
Lead | |
|
It's not like I care or I deserve the title, I was wondering if there is any Southern Cross fan alive who can argue I'm not, or the Southern Cross
fandom is definetely and completely dead.

There are Southern Cross fans who are regulars here. There just hasn't been all that much about the show that hasn't already been talked about.

I think there are some fairly rabid southern cross fans out there.
Well 1 at least. |

My buddy Dave (a.k.a. Brooklyn Redleg) has been lobbying for a toy or model AJACS gunship for years. What's bizarre is that because of the 25th Anniversary
in Japan, companies are coming out with repops or retools of model kits from other 1984 shows. Perhaps Aoshima is planning on a Southern Cross issue
later in '09--they'd have the old IMAI molds.

He participates off and on here, as time allows, but he's been banned at various times from the Palladium and (IIRC) the robotech.com boards. He's one
of the most knowledgable persons around on Southern Cross, and I suspect that one of the reason why certain people are no longer with Harmony Gold is that they
became too friendly with Dave, and used his research to attempt to alter Tommy's grand vision for (destroying) Robotech, and got canned for daring to
oppose the Fabulous Yune Bros.

Why are robotech.com runners banning and persecuting dedicated fans all the time?
Why does Harmony Gold have in charge such *ssholes in charge, cant they get any better? |

giantrobot45 wrote: Well, I'm not going to claim to be the biggest Southern Cross fan in the world. I'm certainly a rabid fan, I'll admit that. Southern Cross is far from dead, though there are many out there who simply want to see it die (including some douchebags who claim to be fans yet say 'just let it die already' such as VF5SS at MacrossWorld). I certainly do not make friends with my stance on things, but I've gotten tired of being told that Southern Cross a.) sucks (for no particular reason that actually makes sense) b.) the mecha suck (personal choice) c.) the mecha as built make no sense, usually some asinine statement that the Logan should topple over from being top heavy (eventhough its shown repeatedly to stand on almost reverse-articulated legs) and/or the Spartas is a retarded design cause it leaves the crew exposed in two forms and thats not how tanks are built (never mind that the Swedish Stridsvagn 103 (or S Tank as its commonly known) has the crew totally exposed for most of its operations d.) because it was cancelled before it ran its full course (36 episodes planned) it therefore deserves to be relegated to the dustbin and forgotten e.) no merchandise was actually made for it (funny, I keep coming across more and more stuff on Yahoo Japan) etc, etc ad endless f*cking nauseum. Then, of course, I made alot of people not only mad, but apparently gave them the ammunition to question not only my intelligence level, but my ability to spacially reason when I agreed with the uRRG that the Sylphide could and should transform. Never mind that we do not have access to the unproduced portion of Southern Cross nor has anyone bothered to ask the Ammonite Studio design team that did the mecha for Southern Cross. Natually, this relates to Robotech more than Southern Cross since it was The Narrator that first said they were Veritechs (though later its an air traffic controller that calls them Veritechs), since the OSM is silent (in fact, nothing is known for certain outside its name). The latest, of course, is the argument over the representation of the Battloids in the Robotech RPG 2nd Edition and whether some of them are accurately represented by the Shizoku Insert that says the models are all 1/48th scale (never mind that we have on-screen proof that the mecha are all of varying sizes, which throws that into contention). Yep, because I sided with the uRRG again and said the Fenris and Kraken should be powered armour (the former would be like the Queadlunn-Rau, while the latter is an exoskeleton), I'm again surrounded by 'controversy'. No one has been able to produce lineart that shows the height of said mecha. That would be the only way to conclusively provide 'accurate' information. On top of that, I get it from both ends: those who want to maintain OSM primacy for Robotech and then from people who only want the dialogue of Robotech to count. And people wonder why I don't post as much as I used to..... Edit: Stan, for some reason it won't let me log into my regular EZBoard account, but this stupid Yuku account. HELP!

Dave - I think there is a way for you to "associate" the Yuku account and your board specific ID together, if they aren't already. Effectively,
the local ID should be a Profile of the Global one. If it's not, then go to the support forums, and post there / submit a ticket / whatever to get the two
merged.

Most (though not all) don't deign to grace us with their versions (such as douchebag el supremo Oreillyrel) but instead merely criticize. Nor can many of them explain the differences between the OSM information and whats shown on screen, since the former has been known to be wrong on occassions (300m Ikazuchi, anyone?). A great example of that is also the different sized GMP Battloids, the piloted and AI versions. The Drone version here isn't much over 4m in height.....if that.
And here are two showing the piloted version that is over 7m in height when you compare it to the Spartas and Salamander near it (furthermore, its running on a gradient LOWER THAN the either mecha and its STILL taller).
So please explain to me how the f&ck a 1/48th scale model that is the same height as the other models can be touted as representing either mecha accurately? A Southern Cross Army of ONE "If I'm going to Hell....I ain't goin alone!" - Dana Sterling, Rolling Thunder #1

I don't buy into the closing animation sequence as proof since an action sequence where robots are running to and fro, slightly crouched, leaping left to
right is by no means an accurate way to measure height.
The last pic is a badly drawn perspective shot. The head is gigantic. How you could use it to prove a point is beyond me since its a partial overhead shot.

Anyone ever tried to seriously make a Southern Cross webpage with models, cg images, etc? You arent going to get the troop together with no outpost

In 2 dimensional perspective art (ie the sequence of all the mecha running). Objects in the foreground are typically depected as their based being placed lower
and their tops being placed higher than a similar sized object in the background.
It could be that the Golem in said art is merely closer than many of the other mecha. In short, not a perfect proof, especially as there are also a number of animation errors and dialog errors present in the Robotech series (I have yet to hear a satisfactory explanation for the SDF-02's breif pressence for example). Regretably perfect proofs on many things will elude us for the forseeable futre and all that is left on many things is individual interpretation. |

I would vote that the difference in size between the first & second pics could be an AI Bot compared to a larger mecha that shares its appearance
(though, most probably, it would be the bot being made to look like a small version of the Golem mecha).

giantrobot45 wrote: Nope, only a Yahoo Group called The Dirty Dozen (based on douchebag Steve Yune telling me point-blank in Robotech chat one night years ago that there are only 'a dozen fanatical Southern Cross fans' and 'you're not a real fandom'). Anyway, found something interesting. Perhaps one of the designers of R-type Final was a Macross and Southern Cross fan cause one of them is a Logan-like vehicle and the other is a VEFR-1-like vehicle.

Interesting, the radome one sort of looks like a hybrid Logan / VEFR-1.
