Watching the raw of Frontier #9 right now....
I can't believe I just NOW realized what the acronym for the military is (when it flashed up on their displays).... Perhaps it was because Harvey Korman died yesterday, and I was thinking of his movie roles (Count de Monet, etc.), the first thing that came to mind was... "Send in the NUNS!!!!!!!" (this, with the VFs named "Messiah"??? oy gevalt....) Stan Bundy sbundy@kih.net ICQ: Basara (2878324) Xfire: basara549

Now, back on the real subject.....
It's interesting to note that Macross Frontier is an amalgam of California landmarks. We see numerous San Francisco landmarks (the Golden Gate, the Transamerica building, the streetcars), but we also see Griffith Observatory (which in the real California is in the Los Angeles area), that also appears to be the cemetary (for monument purposes, at least - the bodies get recycled). Anyone see any more LA landmarks, or other parts of California represented? Stan Bundy sbundy@kih.net ICQ: Basara (2878324) Xfire: basara549

Yep, #9's a keeper. Here's hoping that this is more indicative of the rest of the series than #8.

Just saw a rough sub of #10....
Oh... My..... Well, we know that Macross Zero is firmly in the chronology of Frontier, now (and I wonder how loud the wailing and gnashing of teeth over at Macross World is...) The use of Ranka's song as a replacement for "Life Song" brings up a number of interesting issues. And, What is the connection between her and "DOCTOR Mao", that Ozma ponders as being "Fate", that Ranka ended up playing her? What is Mao a doctor of? Protoculture Studies? I can't wait to see someone go over the "Bird Human" movie credits from within the episode with a fine-tooth comb. For that matter, will we find out the fate of Shin & Sara, in Frontier? I still have my suspicions about a certain orphan discovered by a burned-out pilot, given Sara's abilities.... And, we get to see more of our mystery pilot... Definitely cyborged to the extreme - no wonder he can survive the moves he makes - and Ranka's comment (that her stress-induced amnesia makes her forget)brings up more questions.... Nii-chan??? The data exchange between Cathy's "friend" and the other person also gave as many answers as it raised questions, while not actually letting us see the information in question. The Crystals ARE important, like I theorized earlier. And, given the voice of the informant.... Let's see - a common enough cyber-disguise from any number of sources of cyberpunk fiction... My guess is the female-sounding informant is Sheryl's manager - the question - which is the disguise? The male look at the exchange, or "her" normal appearance in the other scenes? And is it her talking to Brera, giving the marching orders from the Vajra's owners? Stan Bundy sbundy@kih.net ICQ: Basara (2878324) Xfire: basara549

Just was going through the Macross Compendium, and found something... interesting....
A link between characters - Macross Frontier: Sheryl Nome Macross Zero: Sara Nome & Mao Nome Hmmm.... The plot thickens.... (especially when you then add Ozma's comment about the "fate" of Ranka playing Mao) Stan Bundy sbundy@kih.net ICQ: Basara (2878324) Xfire: basara549

The other anime show I was thinking of in relation to Macross Fronter? Baldios. (Or it could be Beast Wars!) If Bas' proposition
about where Macross Frontier is going wins out, Earth and the human race will really get screwed.

From the previews, you could tell that Ranka, Sheryl, and Alto in Macross Frontier is the same triumvirate as Sara, Mao, and Shin in Macross Zero.
If you watch the later Frontier episodes, especially 7, and watch Zero episode 5, Shin and Alto share a similar action sequence. It's uncanny. I wonder how it will all play out in the end though. In this incarnation, I believe Ranka is the key to the series as Sara was in Zero. There is no way to be sure though. |

Seeing #11 subbed, it appears I was right in my hypothesis that the person that Leon is getting his info on the Vajra from is Grace, Sheryl's manager.
Either that, or it's one hell of a misdirection with someone with a "cybervoice" identical to Grace's communicating to Leon while focusing on
Grace. It also makes one wonder if that is her (using a cyberdisguise - remember, such things are illegal on Frontier) actually doing the data pass at the
restaurant. And we now know the crystals are related to the high-tech company of Luca's older siblings (who happen to be major military contractors), at
least in design - they "appear" to be stolen tech. Whose side is Leon on, anway?
I've commented before how things are actually leading in to where someone could retcon Macross II back into continuity; one could even see Southern Cross worked into Macross, by this point (especially the way the colonies are getting farther and farther apart, and losing touch with each other. You know, that would really be a hoot, if After all the backtracking HG's done concerning the origins of the Robotech Masters, Big West goes and retcons SDC:SC into Macross and has the colony that became the Zor Lords be the survivors of Megaroad-01.... More sources disappearing.... | ||

The Veoh source sub supplier I replaced Muyasuki with is now gone as well.
My guess is that they're getting yanked by veoh for one of the other subs they carry (IIRC, both muyasuki and the other person had Bleach episodes in the high hundreds, along with other series - and after all, it was ASUX this past weekend when a lot of things were announced as being picked up) I grabbed another source, but we might need to find out if the Veoh posters are posting anything else (that would be ban-bait) before getting too dependent on them. I figure it's not Big West doing it, as after all, Macross 7 is still up on peoples' accounts that onyl posted Macross 7. Stan Bundy sbundy@kih.net ICQ: Basara (2878324) Xfire: basara549

Now, after seeing 15 & 16:
Something is definitely rotten.... Ranka is being used as sort of the anti-Basara - effectively holding the Vajra in a state of confusion while the others attack. And, both the Protodevlin and Basara are referenced in the episode, so there are probably many people lamenting that Macross 7 is in the continuity for certain, now, over on a certain other site. The reasons given for her ability, that there are mini-waves in foldspace given off by her singing that transmits the emotion, actually helps better define both the Minmay & Basara effects (anima spiritua = the ability to project by the fold waves?) - if it doesn't end up as a Midichlorian type fiasco. Where are the "fold quartz" crystals comign from? the Vajra corpses? And, will the significance of the apparent humanoid image we saw light up in that one Vajra, many episodes ago, come into play? What are the words to Grace's new version of Aimo? With none of the sources I've found since Muyasuki disappeared subbing the lyrics, that leaves us in the dark - and are the words new, the original ones Ranka has forgotten, or some perverse twisting of them?
