Maybe it's because Dana and the other two female leads of SC are the most real (in terms of how they act) females of the series. Dana may be a bit flaky, but I KNOW people who act similar to her (And to Marie and Nova as well). I've not really met anyone who has similar personalities to Lisa or Rook in real life, and the ones I've met that acted like Minmei or Annie typically were in high school or younger.

Of course, this is one of my favorite Dana/Jeanne pictures; sorta reflects what the character has to face in either series, after the last episode. I really wish that someone would actually remake SDC:SC - fans go for that level of complicated storytelling these days (After seeing Geass through once, both series, now when I see a rerun, Wierd Al's "Everything you know is wrong" keeps going through my head...)

Incidentally, I've seen the whole series, but I acquired Macross on VHS from THE INTERNET at great expense. Hooray for tracking control, etc. I was disappointed that the quality of the Legacy DVDs wasn't much better than the VHS.

Also, the idea of fan service in Robotech (Protoculture Collection) worries me. (Even though Dana is my favorite of the chicks in the series. Don't ask.)

I don't think she'd do a good Lisa Hayes and in all honesty, I don't think I could have any sort of wholesome relationship with someone pretending to be Minmei

I've already used an episode here and there as warm up for my RT RPG campaign while waiting for the rest to show up.

Also, over the next few months I'll rewatch the series with my girlfriend since she is interested in seeing it.

Yes she is a keeper.

First, congrats on watching the whole series! Feel free to revisit it often, and bring friends!

I have the "Complete Collection" my self, which I think is the same as the "Legacy Collection" only re boxed with out the extras like "Sentinels". Instead of buying the remastered sets, I opted for buying the originals, Super dimensional Fortress: Macross, Super Dimensional Calvary: Southern Cross, and Mospeada. To me, going that route kept my original impressions of Robotech and my appreciation for the original source material, intact..

Correct. I personally just couldn't get used to the new sound effects and faux surround sound lol. I also had an artifact (slight diagonal lines and ghosting) issue with the bright colors in the cleaner picture which no on else apparently reported. IIRC, AlphaVT identified and time-coded the very heavily pieced together footage for"Dana's Story" so HG could recreate it, as well as locating all of the scenes which shouldn't have two moons in the original SC (TRM) footage.

The Legacy Collection is how it aired on TV, Protoculture Collection is remastered (clearner visuals, different sound effects), correct?

HG added in the nudity with other snippets here and there from the three restored/remastered original japanese versions of the series when they created the extended editions a couple of years ago. IIRC, the Protoculure collection is the extended editions with the extras from the earlier dvd sets.

Well there's the fan service of Minmei, but we get full on bare breasts of Dana and a full frontal (though distant) of Ariel now.

As to the more specific content of the show . . . there was a moment (I forget which episode, watching them all so close together and skipping the intro and outro tends to make it a big blur) where I got the impression that the RM made the Zentraedi, but lsot control of the Zentraedi and were forced to flee when the Zentraedi turned on them. The Zentraedi and the RM both also seemed like fractured societies so there may be numerous factions of both out there in the Robotech cosomos.

Other big thing I noticed was the dreadfully high level of onconsistentcy series to series, episode to episode, within episodes and between dialog and images. It makes me think that very few of the points being argued in Robotech fandom are actually proovable.

Wait...nudity? I know there was some fan-service type scenes of Minmei and Dana in the OSM, and of course the hot springs on Mint's birthday, but when did that get to jump into the Robotech versions?

It's a bit different than Robotech told in other media, isn't it? The Disciples of Zor launch offensives against the Robotech Masters. Zor was the first Robotech Master. The Invid were forced to abandon two other planets. Dana has a brother. You may also have noticed that characters occasionally experience psychic phenomenom like Dana and Rand did.

After several decades of Robotech fandom, and a wonderful gift from my girlfriend, I finally have been able to watch the series in entirety.

I had seen the bulk of Macross back during the original run, and again on the intermittent repeats. When Space here in Canada started showing Robotech I got some of Masters and New Generation under my belt too. But now that I have the Protoculture Collection DVDs, I've been able to watch the entire series, end to end, over the last week and a half.

My first reaction, there was a lot more nudity than I remembered.
